Chemistea Café: a fusion of science and art

From its complete set of test tubes, glass beakers and flasks, this café will surely make anyone channel their inner scien-tea-st spirit.

Best buddies Gabelle Roxas and Jessica Tan Koa teamed up and experimented with their common love for coffee and matching despise for chemistry, coming up with the idea of Chemistea.

The duo originally thought of establishing a rotisserie business, but because they have geeky and adventurous personalities, they chose to pursue the idea of a café business instead.

With the desire to make customers feel the scientific vibe, Roxas and Toa looked for a supplier of the apparatuses – despite its pricey cost – that would surely add more excitement to the place.

The café offers a variety of affordable beverages ranging from milk tea, to coffee, to fruiteas, where one can even formulate his or her own tea!

Future experiments

Roxas and Koa decided to expand their franchise when they noticed that people who visit them usually come from far places, that their location is quite hard to find, and that it is becoming too small for customers.

“We chose to settle in the middle of the university belt because our target is to bring Chemistea near to students and to expose our business,” chief manager Ilonah Godilos told The Spiral Journal in an interview.

Chemistea’s second branch is located at the ground floor of Fusebox Food Park at 1414 Asturias Street Corner Laong Laan Street, Sampaloc, Manila.

Chemistea was established on October 1, 2014, and its first branch is located on the second floor of Legacy Building at 44 Shorthorn St., Bahay Toro, Project 8, Quezon City. Both branches are open Monday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
