A fund-raising Original Pilipino Music (OPM) concert was offered for the completion of the world’s tallest Divine Mercy statue last Nov. 29 at the Parish of National Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Bulacan.

The concert contributed to the 80 percent of the fund's completion.

“The total amount of the accomplishment is already 80 percent. P73 million worth na po ang natatapos,” said Fr. Prospero Tenorio, secretary general of the World Apostolic Congress of Mercy (Wacom).

Kaya sana idalangin natin na sa pamamagitan ng ganitong mga gawain ay mapabilis natin ang pagtatapos so that next year ay magamit na natin ang ating four-storey building and 100-foot statue of the Divine Mercy,” Tenorio added.

Fr. Nap Baltazar, parish priest at the Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, said the funds and efforts contributed by all the parishioners would be brought back to them at the completion of the project.

[A]ko ho’y naniniwala, anuman po ang inyong ibinahagi sa proyektong ito, sabi nga ho, ‘Babalik, siksik, liglig, at umaapaw’,” Baltazar said.

The concert titled, “Harana, Alay sa Divine Mercy: A Basil Valdez Concert” highlighted the songs of the Philippine Premiere Balladeer Basil Valdez for the past 40 years.

The Divine Mercy statue was blessed and inaugurated last Jan. 19 by Nigerian Bishop Martin Uzoukwu and Malolos Bishop Jose Oliveros at the 4th Wacom.

The Shrine is a popular destination for Catholic pilgrims and devotees.
