‘Assess your life, focus on Christ,’ UST parish priest tells Catholics
Catholics must establish Christ the King in their lives and not on those who reigned themselves as kings.
This was the reminder of Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. during his homily at the Eucharistic celebration of the Solemnity of Christ the King on Nov. 26 at the UST Santissimo Parish.
“Kasi ang focus [ay] hindi si Kristong Hari, ang focus [ay] kung ano-anong mga king. Ang dami pong naghahari-harian diyan sa buhay natin. Hindi ‘yun ang dapat na mangibabaw, kung hindi si Kristong Hari,” he said.

“Hindi kayamanan, hindi pagiging makasarili, [at] hindi kapangyarihan, kung hindi si Kristong Hari,” Coronel added.
Coronel urged everyone to assess their lives everyday because there is no definite time for the coming of the judgment day.
“Tayo ba ay greedy? Gahaman ba tayo? Tayo ba ay masyadong self-centered? Hindi ba tayo nagpapatawad?” he said.
“Pero hindi natin alam kung kailan tayo kukuhanin ng Panginoon. Kaya everyday, we review our life, everyday we say yes to the love of God. Mangyayari ‘yun kung may focus [na] everything that we do is for the Lord,” he added.
Coronel said God did not ask to give everything to the needy, but showed care even in little actions that was considered as “life transforming.”
“Hindi naman sinabing, ‘Eradicate poverty in the Philippines.’ Magbigay lang daw sa nangangailangan. Hindi po hinihingi sa atin ang napakalaking bagay, kung hindi maliit na bagay lang pero life transforming,” he said.
Everyday is a gift and everyday people were given the chance to assess their lives, said Coronel.
“Ang mahalaga ‘yung ngayon. [H]andog sa atin ng Panginoon ang bagong araw para magbago,” he said. “And everyday of our lives, we are given the opportunity to review for our life.”
The Solemnity of Christ the King is the final Sunday of the Liturgical calendar, preceding the start of Advent season or the preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus Christ.
Dec. 3 is the start of Advent.
