Duterte's trust rating down to 35 percent in latest SWS survey

President Rodrigo Duterte’s trust rating plummeted to 35 percent in September this year as compared to his rating of 56 percent in the same period last year, the recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.

According to the survey, the components of the 35 percent showed that only eight percent, compared to last year's 15 percent, believed Duterte could fulfill “all or nearly all” his promises while 27 percent as compared to last year's 41 percent believed that he could fulfill “most” of promises during his term as President.

The remaining 57 percent believed he could fulfill “a few” of his promises and six percent believed that he would fulfill “almost none" or "none” of his promises.

President Duterte enjoyed a high trust rating of 62 percent when he started his presidency and 52 percent back in March 2017.

The Palace said the results were not unusual as euphoria from elections typically dissipates as this was also the situation in administrations before Duterte.

"We find nothing unusual in the drop of those who expect that he would fulfill his promises as the euphoria of the elections normally wears off after a year in office and people become more realistic on what the government can deliver. This has been the trend in previous administrations," Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

"What matters is Filipinos remain satisfied when they gave the current administration a 'very good' overall performance rating at +58, as reflected in the same survey," he added.

Roque also said the President and the members of his Cabinet--regardless of the numbers--would continue to "work hard in bringing comfortable life for all where citizens feel safe and secure under a trustworthy government."

A total of 1,500 Filipino adults, with ages 18 and above, used face-to-face interviews as survey method. There were 600 in Balance Luzon and 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The survey was conducted with margins of error of ±3 for national percentages, ±4 for Balance Luzon, and ±6 each for Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The survey was conducted last September 23 to 27. The results were released on November 5.
