Thomasian tops 2017 CPA board exams

A Thomasian topped the October 2017 certified public accountants board exams with six other Thomasians landing in the top 10, as the University of Santo Tomas (UST) was named third top-performing school.

Alfonso Solomon Ramos grabbed the top spot with a passing rate of 91.33-percent, followed by Judy Ann Luzon of the University of the East (UE)-Manila and Carl Louise Chan of the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman with 91.17 percent and 91.00 percent of passing rate, respectively.

Ray Dizon and Robert Bolanos Jr. shared fourth place with a score of 90.67 percent.

John Aratea of UP-Diliman placed fifth with a score of 90.33percent, followed by Kneerizza Embrado from Ateneo de Davao University who garnered a score of 90.17 percent.

Alvin Endaya landed on seventh place with a score of 90.00 percent, while Uriah Diaz from the UE-Manila and Pauline Ocampo from the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology shared eighth place with a score of 89.83 percent.

Rochelle Enrile, Angel Reyes, and Vanessa Roxas from the Far Eastern University shared ninth place with Thomasians Maria Marfil and Marc Villaverde who garnered a score of 89.67 percent.

Thomasians Louize Areño and Christine de Leon shared 10th place with Marcia Butastas from the University of San Carlos with a score of 89.33 percent.

UST improved this year with an increased passing rate of 91.99-percent with 333 making the cut out of 362 examinees from last year’s 90.71-percent passing rate with 352 passers out of 388 examinees.

UP remained as the top-performing school with a 100-percent passing rate.

This year’s national passing rate went down to 30.45-percent with 4,511 passers out of 14,816 takers, from last year’s 36.48-percent with 5,249 passers out of 14,390 takers. G.J.C.
