Green Archers take down Red Warriors

The De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers mauled the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, 106-100, in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament last Oct. 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Green Archers started with a seven-point edge, but the Red Warriors hung tight with their own defensive efforts to cut DLSU’s lead down to four by the end of the first quarter.

Alvin Pasaol surged in the second quarter, almost scoring everything himself. DLSU, however, responded with their own series of stops to extend their lead entering the half.

Pasaol scoring a career-high and historical 49 points—passing National University’s head coach Jeff Napa who scored 43 in 2002—was not enough for the Red Warriors to stop DLSU’S big men who also scored their own career-highs.

Mbala led the Green Archers with a spectacular double-double performance of 39 points and 15 rebounds while Abu Tratter scored 24 points with 10 boards.

Bulldogs Philip Manalang and Mark Olayon finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The UE Red Warriors will face the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, while the Green Archers will face the Ateneo De Manila University Blue Eagles on Sunday at the same venue.
