Golden Shuttlers conquer AdU, succumb to UE

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Shuttlers outwit the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons but bowed down to the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 80 badminton tournament at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall Sunday.

The UST Male Shuttlers swept the Soaring Falcons, 5–0, while the Female Shuttlers fell short against the Red Warriors, 2-3.

“Ito nalang yung tanging pag-asa namin dahil yung natitira nalang sa girls ‘yung Ateneo. ‘Yun battle for last ‘yun eh,” UST head coach RJ Ormilla said.

“Hindi sila fighter eh. Nagkatalo lang talaga kung sino gusto manalo,” he added.

The Male Shuttlers took a straight win as Cris Sanchez, John Yabut, and John Edgar Reyes swept all single events, while tandems Reyes-Jan Mark Sotea and RusselEnriquez-Josh Defensor overpowered AdU in both doubles event.

UE’s Lyra Rosal outplayed Female Shuttler Elizabeth Pimentel in the fifth game to seal the match, 16-21, 21-19, 21-16.

The UST Golden Shuttlers will face the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, on Thursday at the same venue.
