Tiger Spikers overpower Red Lions in PVL
THE UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas (UST) Tiger Spikers clobbered the San Beda College (SBC) Red Lions, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22 in the first Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan last Sept. 27.
Tiger Spiker Joshua Umandal generated a total of 17 markers off 13 attacks, two blocks and two aces, while Arnold Bautista added 16 points.
Mark Enciso led San Beda with 14 points, while Jomaru Amagan managed to give nine markers.
UST head coach Odjie Mamon said the team was in a do-or-die situation and needed the victory to stay alive in the league.
“We’re still a young team, so maganda na makita ngayon pa lang kung paano sila magrespond sa mga ganitong sitwasyon na kailangan namin manalo,” said Mamon.
The España-based squad has now a 3-3 win-loss card, making their final elimination round game on Sept. 30 a must win. San Beda has now a 2-4 slate.
The Tiger Spikers will be facing the winless De La Salle- College of Saint Benilde Blazers on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the same venue.
