Day 2 of transport strike cancelled; plans of bigger protest eyed
The second day of the two-day jeepney strike organized by Stop and Go Transport Coalition has been called off due to plans of conducting bigger protests, Junn Magno, president of Stop and Go Transport Coalition bared last September 25.
“Mag-aano kami… magre-reorganize kami para sa paghahanda namin [para sa] mas malakas [at] mas malaki [na protesta],’’ Magno told The Spiral Journal in a phone interview.
Magno said he does not feel discouraged about the absence of other transport groups in the first day of the strike yesterday, Sept. 25.
“’Yung mga hindi sumama, siguro ‘yun [iyong] ‘mga [may] gustong [mag] ‘phase out.’ That’s simple,” he said.
The transport group’s jeepney strike aimed to protest against the government’s jeepney “modernization” program that would phase out jeepneys that are over 15 years old and
the proposed use of e-jeepneys and solar jeepneys that cost 1.4 million – 1.6 million pesos.
Magno said the date of the protest is yet to be finalized.
