Tiger Shuttlers head coach hopes to secure Final 4 spot

THE UST Tiger Shuttlers’ newly-appointed head coach has set his goal of bringing the men’s team to the final four, after five years of failing to reach the championships.

RJ Ormilla, who was also a Tiger Male Shuttler, expressed his hope regarding the men’s badminton team's promising chance of entering the final four.

“‘Yun ang asahan mo. Basta magffinal four kami sa lalaki,” he said.

Ormilla, however, admitted that he is not expecting a podium finish for the women’s team this UAAP season.

Ormilla said badminton teams from other universities surpass the Tiger Shuttlers in terms of support and experience.

“Halos lahat ng ibang teams, they train abroad pa, kumukuha sila ng sparring from abroad. Pero […] ‘yun ang sinasabi ko sa players ko— na hindi ‘yun dapat gawing dahilan o gawing excuse ‘yun.” he said.

[P]ara sa babae, talagang laban lang,” he added.

The Tiger Shuttlers’ UAAP Season 80 tournament will start on Sept. 20 at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall in Manila.
