New UST courtside reporter to follow predecessors’ legacies
THE NEW courtside reporter of UST intends to follow the steps of her predecessors, after being chosen to be a sideline patroller for the UAAP Season 80.
Despite receiving comments of comparison between her and the UST’s previous courtside reporters, Tonie Marie Moreno remained motivated and positive that she will do well for this season.
“There are people [rin] that really love Ate Angelique. She really had a good run nga as the courtside reporter that until now, she’s being kept in UAAP as an insider. I guess I just took those comments positively na parang ‘Okay I need to prove myself that I deserve to follow suit after her, […], Ate Crystal and everyone else,’” she said.
Moreno followed Angelique Manto, who had been the UST’s courtside reporter for the past two consecutive seasons.
The 20-year-old graduating communication arts student said she looked up to all of the previous courtside reporters and tried to adopt qualities from each.
“I just try to pick up what I can from everyone […], Ate Angelique’s style of writing her reports, Ate Kristelle’s delivery, si Kristina Marisigan na alam natin, one of the best talaga [siya]. Basta ‘yon, I just try to pick up [their] legacies,” she said.
The new courtside reporter also mentioned the pieces of advice that Manto gave to her.
“She taught me how to write my reports in a way that I wouldn’t get lost […], tinuruan niya rin ako not to make reports [that are] too general,” she said.
Being the sports editor of their high school publication, Moreno knows how to write “in a way that looks at things in a different perspective.”
Moreno claimed that her background in writing is what makes her different from the previous courtside reporters.
Moreno also asked for the continuous encouragement and support from the entire Thomasian community not just for basketball and volleyball, but for all UAAP sports.
Other courtside reporters who will see action from the sidelines together with Tonie Moreno are Agatha Uvero (University of the Philippines – Diliman), Nicole Sumagui (Adamson University), Miguel Dypiangco (National University), Eileen Shi (De La Salle University), Marite Bautista (Ateneo de Manila University), Migs Gomez (University of the East), and Sydney Crespo (Far Eastern University). with reports from Juan Miguel Bonjoc and Elmer B.
