Ateneo remains unbeaten, thwarts FEU for 2-1 start
THE ATENEO de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles is still undefeated, after outgunning the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws, 94-82, in the Sunday shootout in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles started strong and showed remarkable shooting behind the arc, giving their season-high in the game.
Ateneo shot 34 attempts from distance and knocked down 12 to boost up their scoring.
“We shot well from the field and then from the three-point line,” Thirdy Ravena said in a post-game interview.
Ravena led the Katipunan-based squad, as he finished with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists, making him the best player of the game.
Blue Eagle point guard Anton Asistio added 16 markers.
Ateneo was able to sustain its strong start, while FEU was to cut the lead to as low as nine points.
Tamaraw Wendel Comboy scored a team-high 12 markers while Orizu and Tuffin finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Blue Eagles is now at the top of the leader board with a 3-0 win-loss card, while the Tamaraws failed to get a 2-1 standing.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles is looking forward to their fourth straight win when they face the winless UE Red Warriors on Sept. 24 at 2 p.m., while FEU hopes to bounce back against the UST Growling Tigers on Sept. 23 at 2 p.m.
Both matches will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
