UST parish priest urges Thomasians to emulate Blessed Mother’s humility, courage

Blessed Virgin Mary showed the ‘life of humility’ despite the sufferings given to Her, and we are encouraged to do so.

This was the challenge of the UST parish priest Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P. to Thomasians in his homily in a Eucharistic celebration of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at the Santísimo Rosario Parish last Sept. 8.

“Tayo ay pinapaalalahanan ng pagpapakumbaba at pagtitiis ng Abang Maria. ‘Yan ang halaga ng pagdiriwang ng kanyang kaarawan,” he said.

Coronel emphasized faith, hope, and love as the three virtues that everyone should carry.

“Lahat tayo ay naglalakbay sa mundong ito. Ipagpatuloy ang journey focusing on the goal. Sa journey, [these three virtues] are what we should put in our hearts.”

Coronel said Mary’s faith amid trials is a perfect example of fidelity to the will of God.

“Sa buhay nating ito, may Diyos tayo na [nakatataas] sa atin. Alam natin na may magandang mangyayari sa atin kapag mananampalataya tayo sa Diyos. Ganito ang pananampalataya ni Maria,” he said.

“Maraming pangit na nangyari pero nanalig siya. Hanggang sa dulo ng kanyang buhay siya po ay nanalig,” he added.

Early Celebration

Installation of the new Thomasian lay liturgical ministers was also conducted during the early Eucharistic celebration of the birthday of the Blessed Mother last Sept. 7.

Fr. Pablo Tiong, O.P., the UST Vice-Rector for Religious Affairs, said sufferings and mistakes are important parts of one’s opportunity to learn.

“There is no such thing as perfect life, but our life here on Earth is the perfect chance to learn from our mistakes,” he said to the 25 newly installed liturgical ministers.
