Thomasian alumnus gains recognition in the computer game industry
He always dreamt of working in the video games industry.
College of Fine Arts and Design alumnus Martin Lawrence Agleron was one of the contributors in the recently released Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, an action-adventure video game expansion of the Uncharted series published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Agleron is a 22-year-old emerging illustrator who created 2D graphics for the 3D assets and materialized the concept art for the recent game franchise. He was a former intern of the Philippines' first marketing activation agency, ActivAsia.
[endif]--Starting off small, Agleron initially worked as a freelance graphic designer for MullenLowe Philippines, an advertising agency with more than 65 markets.
Determined to make a name in the gaming business, he applied as a concept artist in the 3D Department of Secret 6 Inc., a company which focuses on creating assets for computer games.
Secret 6 Inc. is a partner of Naughty Dog, the creator of the Uncharted series.
Just the beginning
Landing as a 2D artist in the 3D department when he started in the gaming industry, it was not a walk in the park for Agleron.
“[At first, I struggled on how] to create the right quality of work needed [by] the client,” Agleron told The Spiral Journal in an online interview.
Agleron's art director and fellow artists were there to guide him throughout the project and help him acquire new skills in the field.
Petitioned by his mother living in the United States, Agleron is set to migrate by the end of September to be with his family. He also plans to pursue a greener pasture as an artist in the US.
“Hopefully [my] experience[s] from Secret 6 Inc., and working on ‘Uncharted: the Lost Legacy’ could give me more [opportunities when I pursue] my career in the game industry in the US,” he said.
